The Barbra Buckner Higginbotham Collection; 194?-2002 198?-2002.

This collection is comprised of Dr. Barbra Higginbotham's professional and private materials, the majority of them relating to her position as Chief Librarian of Brooklyn College. There are professional library files, correspondences, drafts of books, papers on her affiliations and tapes. There are also items that pertain to Dr. Higginbotham's parents, Dr. Zeak and Mrs. Mozelle Buckner; their personal memorabilia, professional information, photographs of her father and information on his experiences during the time he served int he army in World War II as as a prisoner of war (which was made into themove "Von Ryan's Express" starring Frank Sinatra). In 2008, upon Dr. Higginbotham's retirement, she donated some more materials to the archives, mainly library files and photographs, all of which were incorporated into theexisting collection.

Dr. Barbra Buckner Higginbotham (1946- ), was born in Texas to Zeak and Mozelle Buckner, was raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was educated in local schools and then attended Centenary College of Louisiana. Dr. Higginbotham went on to receive both her Master's and Doctorate Degrees in Library Science from Columbia University. In 1985, Dr. Higginbotham became Brooklyn College's Chief Librarian.
